Ahh, if only it were that easy. This is a commonly asked question. Partly due to confusion about the difference between hemp and marijuana, and partly due to plain old wishful thinking.
It’s true that hemp and marijuana are indeed both cannabis. But unfortunately for those hoping to grow weed from hemp seeds, hemp and marijuana are different varieties of cannabis. The cannabis sativa species, to be exact.
What’s the difference? THC. Yeah, the stuff that gets you high. Farmers who grow hemp are required by law to ensure THC levels of less than 0.3%.
So while you can’t grow “weed” from hemp seeds, you can still grow hemp! Including hemp that contains high concentrations of cannabidiol (CBD). Unlike THC, CBD doesn’t get you high, but it has all sorts of other medicinal and therapeutic benefits.
Even though pretty much every state has a law permitting people to obtain and use CBD-only (or low-THC) products, you’ll still want to check your local laws and regulations before ordering and/or growing hemp or using CBD products.
